✦ Synopsis

An apparatus has been developed for the measurement of equilibrium vapour and liquid composition and refractive index data at low temperature and high pressure. Equilibrium is achieved with an externally coupled magnetic mixing device. Phase samples are removed for analysis through specially designed valves mounted in the walls of the cell Refractive indices are obtained by measuring the angular deviations of a monochromatic beam of light passing through the medium. The experimental and analytical procedures were evaluated by testing the cell with the methane-propane system at -75 ° F where equilibrium phase data were already available.
