โฆ Synopsis
In the present paper a comprehensive electron microscope examination has been made of graphite whiskers, grown in a d.c. arc at Union Carbide, Corp. Their structure is that of a closed basal scroll and diffraction patterns are consistent with this conclusion. In many whiskers double diffraction occurs and it is shown how-in specific cases this effect can yield extra reflections having indices (f 040) and (ii 1 0). These reflections have been attributed to a different graphite crystal structure by Hoerni and Weigle.
