✦ Synopsis


In this paper, the elastic deflection formula for a straight-through cracked three-point bend round beam is derived using an analytical method. If the crack tip plastic zone or fracture process zone is localized near the crack, its effect on the load line deflection can be considered through proper modification of the crack length in the elastic deflection formula, a functional form of the plastic deflection formula is thus obtained. Based on this general form of plastic deflection formula and using the J-integral definition as change rate of potential energy, the estimation formula of the plastic part of the J-integral for this kind of specimen is derived, this formula has no restriction of deep crack, and is applicable to both shallowly and deeply cracked specimens where the plasticity is contained. J-integral estimation values can be obtained very simply from load<leflection record plots using r/factors which are given in this paper. these q factors are different from those for the corresponding rectangular beam.
