✦ Synopsis
An exact solution is foundfor the variable general basic hydromagnetic Couette jaw, when a three-dimensional magnetic field is present and all the functions involved are functions of the radial coordinate only. It is shown that Rayleigh's classical V(r) function is completely altered and depends on the effect of the three-dimensional magnetic field. This basic flow is of crucial importance in tackling the more complex hydromagnetic CouetteJEow occurring in practical situations.
