Raman spectra have been obtained for an aqueous dispersion of the phosphollpid sphingomyelin at temperatures in the range 22.5-47.0ยฐC. A band pro f'de analysis identifies 7 individual bands between 1000-1400 cm -1. Changes in the intensity of the various components in this region are used to interpret the structural changes that occur when aqueous dispersions of sphingomyelin undergo an order-disorder transition.
