✦ Synopsis

Recent work on the spectroscopic and photophysical properties of the excited states of Cl? trapped in an Ar matrix is compared with independent gas-phase results on chlorine 01 Cl2 + rare gas as well as with other matrix studies. An alternative interpretation of the results is proposed.
