✦ Synopsis
In magnetohydrodynamic spectral codes, the change in the vacuum potential energy contained between the plasma surface and the conducting shell must be expressed in terms of the deformation of the plasma surface. For the case of a toroidal axisymmetric configuration a numerical scheme based on a Green's function formulation of the vacuum problem is presented. The results of test runs demonstrate that the method works well even when the shell is arbitrarily close to the plasma surface.
