โฆ Synopsis
A novel method of eliminating unnecessary keys at the Arabic terminal is suggested. Intelligence is provided for the terminal in such a way that the shape of a letter inputted by the operator is determined by the terminal rather than by the operator, as is customary now.
By using the algorithm developed, it is possible to reduce the number of the keys on the terminal by 18%, and at the same time, increasing the number of symbols used by 72%.
The suggested method will increase the keying speed by as much as 100% since a major part of deciding the shape of the letter is shifted from the operator's work to the intelligence within the terminal.
This method is applicable to all Arabic text inputting machines from ordinary Arabic electric typewriters, word processors, lithographs, etc. Also, the method can be applied to other terminals of the same language family such as Persian, Urdu, Pashto, etc.
