โฆ Synopsis
Development and performance of a passive soil-air flux sampler as an alternative to conventional sampling systems is discussed. The passive sampler is designed to provide longterm measurements of flux rates of volatile organics at waste sites without disturbing the subsurface plume. Laboratory and field experiments conducted with the passive sampler and an active sampler (emission-isolation flux chamber) indicate that the passive sampler provides results very close to those of the active sampler and that the passive sampler is sensitive to smaller emissions. The passive sampler has added advantages over the emission-isolation flux chamber, such as easy deployment, minimum maintenance, and no power requirements.
