In conclusion, modulation instability leads to power modulation along the fiber, and to increased power penalties when the channel spacing coincides with the modulation instability frequency, which clearly demonstrates that the use of nonzero-dispersion-shifted fibers with slightly positive dispersion is more convenient for WDM optical transmission systems.
