Amyloid-beta peptide (A␤) and the serpin proteinase inhibitor ␣1-antichymotrypsin (ACT) are components of the amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). A␤ exists in soluble monomeric and oligomeric forms and in an insoluble polymerised fibrillar form, but it is not clear which of the
