Amyl Acetate Recovery from Spent Penicillin Broth : The prodigious chemical job of producing penicillin at the current rate of 400 billion units (actually only about 530 pounds) per month requires large amounts of materials. One of these is amyl acetate. The penicillin industry is now using 85 to 90% of the total production of this solvent, leaving very little for other important requirements. In view of this critical situation and to create a more efficient and economical process certain penicillin producers have developed methods for recovering amyl acetate wherever possible. One of these methods which saves both money and material is described here.
