✦ Synopsis
Forward-scattering
amplitudes and phase shifts for intermediate-energy electrons were systematically calculated for selected elements throughout the periodic table. Characteristic variations in the forward-scattering amplitudes with atomic number were found, which differ from those observed in back-scattering amplitudes. Strong effects of atomic valence electrons on the forwardscattering process are evident.
