Promethazine hydrochloride (PTZ) is an amphiphilic drug derived from the phenothiazine structure that possesses a charged aliphatic chain with a chiral carbon. In the presence of beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD), this drug undergoes significant changes of its photophysical properties in aqueous solution.
