✦ Synopsis
moles of antimony pentachloride and one mole of diazonialonic ester. When the components are used in stoichiometric proportions, the same product is obtained in better yield (73 %) as colorless needles, m.p. 107-108 "C (decomp.) in a sealed tube.

Of the two possible structures (3) and (4) for this compound, the second is supported by the results of conductivity measurements in liquid SO2 because the diazonium chelate (4) has salt-like character [2]. There is a sharp diazonium band in the infrared at 2220 cm-1.

Selenium dioxide occupies a unique position a5 au olefln oxidant since the oxidstion product is an e.Uylic alcohol or a derivative of that alcohol such as en ether or an ester; ketone fomation is also occasionally observed. We now report the results of a sidy on the oxidation of 1,3\_dlphenylpmpene
Selenium dioxide-mediated methoxyhydroxylation of cyclic arylolefin with the modest yields is described. This facile strategy was also used to synthesize several 4-arylpyridines, 3-hydroxy-4-arylpyridines, and 3,4-diarylpyridines.
Recently we have been interested in the synthesis of alcohols 1 and 2 for study as potential antihypertensive agents. Impetus for this research stems from the need to obtain compounds which will selectively block Bl-receptor sites (heart) in the adrenergic nervous system in preference to their B2-co
