✦ Synopsis
l,l,l-Trichloroethane is fluorinated by HF at ambient temperature and pressure in the presence of organic layer catalysts, derived from CH,CCl,, f&Cl4 or CH&Cl&Ha and supported on SF,-fluorinated y-alumina or Ccl,-chlorinated y-alumina, to give CHaCCl,_,F,. Related behaviour is observed when CH&Cl&Ha, CH,ClCCl,, CHCl,CHCI, and CHCl=CCla are fluorinated using the supported organic layer catalyst derived from CH&!Cl> The product distributions observed suggest that the reactivity of the substrates can be correlated with their ability to undergo dehydrochlorination. The behaviour of CHC&, Ccl,, CClaFCClFa and Ccl&F3 under similar conditions is also reported.
