Abstract
Abundant instances of Alzheimer neurofibrillary change (ANC) composed of tubules 200 nm wide and twisted into segments each 800 nm in length, indistinguishable from those of Alzheimer disease, were found in electron micrographs of the brain of a 15βyearβold boy who died following subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) of more than nine years' duration. The clinical picture was typical, CSF measles antibody titer was high, and there were characteristic electroencephalographic findings.
