✦ Synopsis

The shape from shading procedure is not the only way to interpret the grey-scale image of a surface independently on illumination conditions. An alternative approach is reported that considers a new surface as an unknown combination of fragments of known shapes, those shapes offering certain invariances to the illumination changeability.

## Abstract The sequential simplex optimization algorithm has been translated into non‐Euclidean space. A study of the algorithm in this space suggests that the path of convergence of the simplex depends on the properties of the space so that different convergence paths can be obtained even with th
