✦ Synopsis

An attempted enantioselective synthesis of all the four individual diastereomers of a,b-dimethylated mycophenolic acid using Evans chiral auxiliaries is reported. The 1,3-allylic strain effect on the enolates used favor the formation of the syn acids.
