β¦ Synopsis
Effect of Alloxan was studied on a nitrogen-fixing blue-green alga: Westiellopsis prolifrca in pure cultures. Concentrations of Alloxan, io Β΅g to 50 Β΅g/ ml stimulate the growth of the alga and increase the chlorophyll, carotin and phycocyanin content of the cultures .

The growth response of the marine blue-green alga, Agmenellum quadruplicatum to 60 inorganic and organic nitrogen sources was studied. These compounds were offered as sole nitrogen sources. Most amino acids, most purines, and urea were good nitrogen sources for growth.
## Abstract The autotrophic and photoheterotrophic growth of light preβtreated and dark preβtreated strains of Westiellopsis prolifica was decreased in the presence of NH, NO and urea in the culture medium. On dark incubation, after preβtreatment with light as well as in the dark, the alga showed b
