β¦ Synopsis
It's 1970, the San Francisco Bay Area. So far, everything about Jane's life has ranged from disappointing to boring to unpleasantly distressing. Life in her parents' home was difficult, so she moved out on her own as soon as she turned 18. But by now, Jane is 20, and has only managed to find work as a medium-speed typist at a temp agency in San Francisco. At that pay rate, she can't afford to live alone, which is how she has ended up sharing a house in Mill Valley with two of the worst housemates ever. She's not allowed to use the stereo have a television, or make phone calls after 3 in the afternoon. So most of her leisure time at home is spent with books, and the occasional opportunity to secretly listen to her only rock album (The Doors) whenever domineering housemate Leona and her 3 year old kid are out of the house. But, home alone one rainy Saturday in March, Jane's dull life turns out to be capable of a few surprises after all, (perhaps adventure, drama, even risk), when the reality she inhabits begins to "break through to the other side". This urban-paranormal novella includes a bonus urban-paranormal novelette, "The Crying", a wry look at modern Wicca, and not nearly as sad as the title suggests!
