## Abstract The extinction ratio, switching contrast, and amplitude modulation (AM) characteristics of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) as an all‐optical add–drop multiplexer (AO–ADM) are analyzed. It shows that the switching performance can be improve
