β¦ Synopsis
the ProMinent Group became the manufacturer of the largest range of dosing pumps in the world, and significantly expanded the company's product base and applications range. Andy E[pb~ck, managing director of ProMinent UK, examines the two most commonly used precision dosing pump types and considers factors which affect their dosing reproducibility and suitability for different types of applications.
T
he two most commonly used types of precision dosing pumps are diaphragm and piston, or packed plunger, types. The choice of pump for a particular application is based on a number of factors, including required dosing rate, operating back pressure, accuracy of dosing required, the liquid to be pumped and, of course, cost. Comprehensive discussion of the fluid dynamics and kinematics of the motion of the displacing device are beyond the scope of this article, but can be found elsewhere 1.
