✦ Synopsis

Straight-chain fatty acids are shown to occur in natural humic acids and fulvic acids to a substantially greater extent than has previously been estimated. The amounts chemically bonded to the substrate usually exceed those physically adsorbed. Quantities of individual fatty acids and phenolic acids in typical samples have been estimated.
