Many,many years ago when I was in school, you had the choice of subjects like alegebra or so called "commercial arithmetic, Anticipating, I would be working in an office, I saw no need to do the alegbra. What a huge mistake.
I am now 78 years old and to this day, I regret not having learned it- so may job advancements closed to me. It has always been a regret. I, every one in while decided it was something I would learn before I died because it was a path untaken. While I still may never learn it.... who knows????
