Grade 6-10-Alex Jackson flirts with danger when he starts hanging out with a group known as SWA, Skateboarders with Attitude. The only girl in the gang comes on to Alex and encourages him to try risky tricks and skate in illegal places. Bored and lonely since his best friend is competing professionally in Europe and his girlfriend has moved to Italy, the teen succumbs to the peer pressure. Alex has a close brush with the police and almost kills himself trying a trick that is out of his league, but all is well in the end. This book will fly off the shelf because the characters are real people, the setting and situations are authentic, and the plot moves quickly. The talk about the tricks and famous skateboarders will be a draw to those students who have an interest in this sport. The Australian words and phrases may be unfamiliar, but they don't distract from the story.
