โœฆ Synopsis

supply 33% of the rare earths needed by Rhodia Electronics and Catalysis. The agreement could be finalised in 2Q 2006. Lynas is to send 40% of its output of rare earth ore from its mine at Mound Weld, Australia, to the ore concentration plant which it is to bring online at Chandong, China, in 2007. Rhodia is to give Lynas access to Rhodia's plant at Liyang, China, for separating some rare earth concentrates. The rare earth ore deposit at Mount Weld is the biggest in the world, able to produce 121,000 tonne/y crude ore, for 10,500 tonne/y rare earth oxides. Demand worldwide for rare earths is an estimated 90,000 tonne/y, growing at 5-8%/y as demand increases from the electronics and automobile industries.
