✦ Synopsis
Air-broadening coefficients for the 1283 cm 01 , n 3 , band of carbon tetrafluoride, CF 4 , have been measured over the temperature range 217 -296 K using a tunable diode laser spectrometer. The dependence of the broadening coefficients on temperature and rotation has been investigated in order to improve analyses of atmospheric spectra. An average air-broadening coefficient at 296 K was determined to be 0.078 ( {0.005 ) cm 01 / atm when averaged over all R ( J ) manifolds studied. The temperature dependence of the air-broadening coefficient, n, was also measured from the spectra and found to be in the range n Å 0.64 -0.69 from examination of spectra recorded at temperatures of 220, 250, and 296 K. The dependence of the broadening coefficients on the rotational quantum number, J, is also discussed.
