โœฆ Synopsis

Ahlstrom sells dust filtration materials operations

A hlstrom Corp is exiting from most of its dust filtration material businesses through the sale of its Wuxi, China plant and three production lines in Bethune, USA to Andrew Industries in a E5.3 million deal.

Ahlstrom says that the dust filtration materials produced at the Wuxi and Bethune sites do not strategically fit its product portfolio. Both plants make dust filtration materials used in applications such as bag house filtration for pollution control.

Andrew Industries will transfer the three dust filtration production lines in Bethune, South Carolina to its own sites. Ahlstrom will continue to manufacture nonwovens for wipes and advanced liquid filtration products at the Bethune site.

Both transactions are expected to be completed by the end of first quarter 2011. Ahlstrom will book approximately E5.2 million as a non-recurring loss from the transaction in its fourth quarter 2010 financial results.

Ahlstrom says that Asia remains a key strategic growth region for the company. About 10% of Ahlstrom's current annual net sales are generated from Asia.

Andrew Industries, based in Altham, UK, is a privately owned international manufacturing group with operations in Europe, North America and Asia. The company's Textile division makes technical needlefelts and drylaid nonwovens materials used in a range of industrial applications.
