Agrostophyllol and isoagrostophyllol, two novel diastereomeric 9,10dihydrophenanthropyran derivatives isolated from the orchid Agrostophyllum callosura, were shown to have the structures 2,7-dihydmxy-6-methoxy-9,10-dihydro-SH-phenanthro[4,5-bed]pyran-5(ax)ol ( ) and 2,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-9,10-dihydro-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bed]pyran-5(equat)ol (In), respectively, from spectral and chemical evidence. II and In were shown to be the racemic mixtures of I1 ' and I1", and In' and In", respectively.
