## Abstract The combination of 2‐formylphenol (Hfp) and the dinucleating ligand H~3~L {2‐(2′‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1,3‐bis[4‐(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐3‐azabut‐3‐enyl]‐1,3‐imidazolidine} with Ni(NO~3~)~2~·6H~2~O leads to the self‐assembly of a Ni~2~ complex capable of showing anion dependent Na^+^ coordination. T
