A variety of poly(acrylonitrile-co-acrylamide) polymers of different compositions were synthesized by free radical copolymerization. Thin films were cast from polymer solutions, and coagulated into ultrafiltration membranes. The effect of preparative parameters on membrane gel structure was investig

β¦ Synopsis
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) were used to investigate the surface of ultraΓltration membranes with pore sizes of ΒΏ10 nm. It is widely accepted that conventional AFM with TiO 2
or Si tips is not able to resolve pores in supported ceramic membranes with a diameter of AE40 nm. In this Si 3 N 4 study it should be tested whether it is possible to lower this border for further characterization of nanoΓltration membranes. Here we present di β erent ways of imaging and discuss alternative sample preparation techniques.
