โฆ Synopsis
5,000 turbines installed around the world with a capacity of less than 100 kW, says a special report in the International Energy Outlook 2004 released by the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy. The U.S. has four manufacturers of small turbines, which manufacture 30% of the world market. "One barrier to the market penetration of small wind turbines is cost," the report notes. "As with many technologies, there are economies of scale associated with small wind turbine systems."
Small turbines cost US$8,000 per kW at the 50 W level, drop to $2,000 at the 300 W level, and cost $1,500 at the 1.5 kW
