โœฆ Synopsis

in an electrolytic bath to reconvert it to metallic tungsten. This renders it more or less porous. To make it compact it is subjected to a white heat under an oxy-hyd.rogen blowpipe while being simultaneously worked by hammering and rolling. The heat must not be high enough to cause oxidation. The ingot is cooled and the process repeated to make it more homogeneous and ductilel When the requisite tenacity is attained the ingot is hammered and compressed to a long drawn-out rod. This is cooled and again heated, but to a lower temperature, and drawn out to a wire by passing it through suitable dies. This wire is claimed to be so ductile and flexible that it can be formed into any shape of filament.
