During the past year, our understanding of signal transduction pathways mediated by nuclear receptors has advanced significantly. Progress was due, in part, to the identification of ligands for orphan receptors, to the discovery of proteins that interact with nuclear receptors and to genetic analyses in animal models using gene-knockout techniques.
