✦ Synopsis

Although primary sewage treatment does not remove viruses, secondary treatment and chlorination is effective. Among the final papem is a discussion of viral concentration by shellfish. It has been shown that these important food sources will readily purge viruses when they are transferred to clean water.

Some will contend that this book is premature and that our insdequ~te knowledge does not warrant such extensive treatment. This reviewer feels that there is no~ an adequate criterinn for setting standards, but a state-of-the-knowledge compilation has value. It should stimulate research and prompt thoughtful consideration by those concerned with our water supplies.
