Great emphasis is presently being placed on the subject of fugitive emissions (particularly hydrocarbons) within industry, especially in the petrochemical sector. End users are demanding valve packings to reduce such emissions and improve reliability of their equipment. In major plants loss of product through fugitive emissions can cost many thousands of pounds. In addition, environmental issues are involved with legislation already in place in the USA and soon to be introduced in Europe.
