Objectives: To discuss the current and future challenges facing Adult Psychiatry, explore innovative Advanced Training in Adult Psychiatry as a solution to some of these challenges, and promote discussion among interested parties as a precursor to developing a bi-national program of Advanced Training in Adult Psychiatry.

Conclusions: Adult Psychiatry is an exciting and rewarding subspecialty with a sound and substantial academic and research base.
