✦ Synopsis
empirical findings for over 400 studies of cognition and cognitive development.
The authors build an Encapsulation
Model of adult cognition and cognitive development in which they integrate and expand the traditional approaches to the study of adult cognition. They address the fact that although a decline takes place in the processing of information with aging, the loss is compensated by advances that may occur in an adult's knowning and thinking dimensions of cognition. The authors express the hope that this text will stimulate interest in the study of cognition and adult cognitive development and that they have clarified important research issues that need to be addressed.
