✦ Synopsis

Engineering Development Institute, 7925-A N. Oracle, #155, Tucson, A2 85704 n i s work develops and presents design parameters for a novel unit operation: adiabatic thin-film evaporation. Liquid flowing downward in a thin film is contacted with gasJowing upward. For applications involving the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs,l from wastewater, this unit operation is employed and the process design is conducted. I n order to prevent crossmedia transfer of pollutants, the use of natural gas for the receiving stream is recommended. Subsequent use of the natural gas for fuel would result in destruction of the VOCs. Relative advantages and disadvantages of other technologies for this application are discussed in detail.
