ing and product design companies worldwide have purchased more than 20000 units of the software, according to the company.

'The market for PC-based solid modellers for mechanical design is one of the strongest growth segments in the CAD industry,' said David Weisberg, publisher of Engineering Automation Report. 'Since Autodesk pioneered the market, a half dozen vendors have jumped on the bandwagon. But Autodesk has a commanding lead with an installed base that is more than five times that of their nearest PCbased Mechanical CAD competitor.' Autodesk Mechanical Desktop has received strong praise from industry-leading companies worldwide for its powerful three-dimensional functionality, 'best-ofclass' design-through-manufacturing solutions and low-price point. 'The speed and sophisticated features of Autodesk's Mechanical Desktop software will play a major part in our strategy to dramatically reduce our new product development cycle,' said Dave Parkes, Network Manager at UK-based IMI Norgren.

Autodesk Mechanical Desktop is a leading mechanical CAD software solution that provides parametric feature-based solid modelling, NURBS surface modelling, associative drafting and assembly modelling on desktop systems.

Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, in combination with programs developed by 15 industry-leading MA1 partners in mechanical market niches such as design optimization, finite element analysis, plastic flow analysis, NC and manufacturing, sheet metal design and tolerance analysis, provides complete design-through-manufacturing solutions for the mechanical CAD market.

Another customer, John Baranowski, HMS' group system manager, explained 'We took our time with our mechanical CAD solution purchase decision because 3D design tools are generally very expensive. We didn't want to spend $80,000 to $100,000 per seat for something we could buy for a quarter or a fifth of the cost. Autodesk saved us a lot of money and gave us the functionality we were looking for. We want to design in 3D and still have associative links to our drawings, and with Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, that's what we get.'

Customers are also choosing Autodesk Mechanical Desktop software based on the availability of seamlessly integrated, 'bestof-class'. design-through-manufacturing solutions from Autodesk's Mechanical Application Initiative (MAI) partners. 'We are trying to integrate everything such as design, analysis and CNC -and with Autodesk Mechanical Desktop we can accomplish that seamlessly. It gives us a significant edge. I don't know of any other program that provides that level of integration,' said Nick Szegedi, president of DATUM-X, a leading engineering firm whose clients include Hughes Aerospace and Litton.

## Abstract During the past 20 years the usage of anaerobic‐curing sealants and adhesives has grown rapidly from almost nothing to an estimated 1500 tonnes per annum. An annual growth rate in excess of 10% is predicted throughout the present decade. In this paper, the gradual improvement in the pe
