✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Various theories for explaining the mechanism of adhesion have been proposed, relating predominantly to the formation of intimate interfacial contact. The strength of adhesion depends not only on the extent of intermolecular interactions at the interface but also on the mechanical response of the materials. Some theoretical concepts are reviewed and our investigations of adhesion between polymers are provided.

Most industrially applied polymer resins and composites have low surface free energy and lack polar functional groups on their surface, resulting in inherently poor adhesion properties. A strong research momentum to understand polymer adhesion in the last decade has been motivated by the growing nee

The work-of-fracture (ywOF) of carbon-carbon composites was measured for composites with 3-D woven fiber preforms, carbon felts, and chopped fibers. Maximum values were observed for the 3-D preforms and minimum values for the carbon felts. The values are also compared with similar data for graphites

## Abstract Various reaction parameters in a propylene glow discharge polymerization were investigated with the objective of synthesizing films having good adhesion to metal and glass substrate. Monomer flow rate (at a constant pumping efficiency) was found to exert a significant effect on the qual
