This paper presents a new approach for the formulation of multivariable ยฎnite element methods and establishes a systematic approach to tie the various existing hybrid/mixed ยฎnite elements together and to suggest the possibility of constructing some new models.

A new finite strip method is applied to the vibration of rectangular plates with complicated boundary and internal support conditions. Based on the classical thin plate theory and displacement formulation, the new finite strip element is conforming with C1-continuity. The displacement function of th
Drs Cheung and Kong are to be congratulated for their excellent paper and for the very useful, new finite strip element that they have developed [1]. In view of the excellent accuracy achieved by the authors, it is quite possible that the fundamental frequency coefficient of a square plate with ste
A new method of formulating isoparametric finite element is developed, and the element strains are proposed to be resolved into two parts, constant part and higher-order one. The new method indicates two important properties of isoparametric finite element, and the equivalent relationship between hy
