✦ Synopsis
The relative rates of consumption of neopentane and of H 2 have been determined for small additions of neopentane to slowly reacting mixtures of H 2 + 02 in aged boric-acid-coated ves-O sels at 480 C. Interpretahon of the results gives rate constants for the attack of H and OH on O , .
neopentane at 480 C. Combmatmn of these values with independent measurements at lower temperatures gives Arrhenius parameters for these processes. Small amounts of the intermediates formed from neopentane have been added to slowly reacting mixtures of H 2 + 02. The major initial products found when acetone, isobutyraldehyde, isobutene oxide, 3,3-dimethyloxetan, and isobutene are used as additives, have been determined. Mechanisms for the formation of many of the products are discussed. The results support the mechanism suggested in Part I for the oxidation of neopentane at 480
