✦ Synopsis

Distending the rectal remnant with sodium iodide demonstrated radiologically a blind track behind the rectum and an irregular fistula from the apex of the rectum to the bladder (Fig. 105).

On June 23, under spinal anaesthesia, the rectal stump was dissected out from below, closing the vesical connexion with catgut sutures (Mr. Dickson Wright).

Following this procedure his recovery was in every way uneventful, and he has had no further trouble. Histologically the rectum showed complete loss of mucosa with replacement by granulation tissue.
