✦ Synopsis

The integration of product data management (PDM) software tools into a manufacturing company requires both technical and organizational considerations. Using an information processing paradigm, the impact of PDM on the design process and group activities are assessed. Using ongoing work with the furniture industry in the Southeastern United States as an example, the relationship of job design and the product development process to the introduction of PDM is examined.
