## Abstract The design and development of an adaptive hybrid predictive controller for the optimization of a real combined cycle power plant (CCPP) are presented. The real plant is modeled as a hybrid system, i.e. logical conditions and dynamic behavior are used in one single modeling framework. St

✦ Synopsis
This paper presents the summary application of an adaptive predictive control system (APCS) to the control and optimization of the processes in a coal power station. The results obtained, corresponding to a Research and Development project at the Pasajes de San Juan power station, which belongs to the company Iberdrola, demonstrate the suitability of the APCS application in this field as well as the important benefits that may be derived from it.

After a short description of a turbogenerator plant, some of the most important general aspects for adaptive predictive control schemes are introduced. Four different adaptive predictive schemes, the DMC, GPC, VGPC and DGPC algorithms, are selected for real-time application at the turbogenerator pla
The optimization at supervisory level of thermal power plant controls is investigated. The design of a predictive supervisory controller that optimizes an objective function in order to determine the set-points for a given regulatory level is described. The objective function includes both an econom
