✦ Synopsis
insurance institutions, and those concerned with land development and conservation. The amount of information packed into the 385 pages is impressive. The disparate depth of treatment from chapter to chapter, occasioned by the widely-varying data base, matters not. Indeed, it serves eloquently to illustrate the point that those countries with more advanced knowledge of landsliding phenomena, and the economic advantage of affordable mitigation strategies, have a duty to provide the expertise and financial assistance to those less fortunate. If this timely text serves only to bring this last point into focus, it will have repaid handsomely the efforts of all those concerned with its production.
