Abstract

ADMET depolymerization is a viable route in the formation of tailored‐molecular‐weight polybutadiene telechelics. The bulk depolymerization requirement is met by initially forming macrocyclic butadiene, thereby decreasing the amount of macrocyclic formation. This synthetic scheme is capable of generating well‐defined, tailored‐molecular‐weight polybutadiene telechelics (~n~ = 2600).

␣,-Vinyl-terminated butadiene oligomers can be generated through the cross-metathesis of ethylene and high molecular weight 1,4-polybutadiene catalyzed by the complex RuCl 2 (ACHPh)(PCy 3 ) 2 . The effect of varied ethylene pressure is studied in order to obtain the highest conversion to the monomer

The product spectrum at the metathesis polymerization/depolymerization equilibrium is very complex because of several subequilibria (ring/chain-equilibrium, equilibrium between rings of different size, equilibrium between chains of different length, configuration equilibrium for the chains, configur
