Induction of metallothionein by cadmium in catfish was a dose-dependent, transcriptionally-controlled process. Metallothionein mRNA was detected after Cd-exposure. Chronic doses produced more metallothionein than a single acute dose. Zn and Cu induced metallothionein to a lower extent compared to Cd
